The topic of vaccination is always a hotly contested one. Many pediatricians will not keep a patient in the practice if they are not fully vaccinated. As with any other topic, the answer usually lies somewhere in between. Links between autism, allergies, autoimmune conditions and asthma are of concern for patients.

Doctors say the studies do not support the links. But, studies are always done in a vacuum; real life physiology, however, is not. The development of autism and immune system dysfunctions are not caused by single agents, but rather by the entire breadth of compounds a developing infant is and is NOT exposed to.

That being said, the use of mercury in Thimerosal is inexcusable. Period. Whomever thought that there would be any safe level of a potent neurotoxin like mercury injected into a newborn should be shot. Point blank. Then throw in other physiological problems common in infants today like constipation (which allows more time for mercury that the body is trying to eliminate to be re-absorbed), low phytonutrient intake, near universal use of antibiotics with no concern for normal flora, in-utero exposures to toxic chemicals and you’ve got a physiological time bomb waiting to explode.

Add in heavy vaccination (for many self-limiting diseases like chicken pox) which is WELL documented to skew the cytokine balance to a Th2 profile (run THAT one by your local pediatrician) and it’s no wonder autism is on the rise.

Flu Vaccine Effectiveness Among Children 6 to 59 Months of Age During 2 Influenza Seasons

Medicine’s blind devotion to the flu vaccine never ceases to amaze me. I remember one year an elderly woman was trampled to death in the hysteria to get vaccinated. Despite this, the flu vaccine’s effectiveness is very questionable.

This particular study was unable to find any effectiveness over the course of two years in children under 5. Think of the costs associated with the march to the pediatrician’s office, parents’ time off of work, and side effects of the vaccination on the child, not the mention the profits going to the vaccine manufacturer.

Compare this with studies showing absurdly high protection against the flu (up to 70% reduction in incidence) with the use of probiotics in children. With this in mind, it’s highly likely that antibiotics ADD to the flu incidence!!! Talk about making money on top of money.

Given the current scare over the swine flu, this is an important study to understand. First, look at the real numbers. As horrible as it is to have an child die of any cause, in the 3 years reported, our country lost 166 children (median age 5 yrs) to confirmed influenza. This is a microscopic number compared the number of children we are led to believe that die of the flu every year. And, of important consideration in these numbers is that many of them had associated MRSA coinfection, which was likely a major contributing factor to their deaths.

This supports the concept of a healthy lifestyle and healthy bacterial flora to fight off these conditions in the first place. The beneficial outcomes of this type of approach, rather than spending millions and millions of dollars from fear tactics on vaccination programs that are of questionable efficacy, are quite obvious.

Human Papillomavirus Vaccination – Reasons for Caution

This topic has been of controversy almost since day one. The list of reasons to be concerned is great, the first of which is how this has been marketed–as a cancer vaccine. It is NOT and has not been proven to stop cancer…only to stop the precursor lesions for cancer. This is not the same thing, and to jump on this massive bandwagon before all the details are ironed out is downright scary.

This particular article notes something that we see of great concern in vaccination–the suppression of one strain of a bacteria or virus leading to the increase in other strains causing problems. Geezz…ultimately, this is a scary path was are going down, and mandating it almost literally right out of the gate is ultimately higher likely to produce a bad, bad outcome in the coming years.

RISK OF CNS INFLAMMATORY DEMYELINATION IN CHILDHOOD

This is one vaccination that I have a serious problem with (with the sole exception of a family member w/ Hep B).  Vaccination wanes by 10 yrs of  age. No risk of exposure in children (with exception noted).  And  issues with MS.

This is not the first study to look at this  association.  Why the hckl are we giving this to newborns????  Can  ANYONE give me a good reason? While I was vaccinated in chiropractic school, because of the increased risk of exposure in dealing hands on with patients.  Plus, by 20 something our immune systems can handle the isolated assult.  But NEWBORNS??????

CAN VACCINATING OUR CHILDREN CAUSE ADULTS HARM? I obviously would not post the title if it wasn’t a concern. I have posted before about the concern over vaccination for pneumococcal pneumonia (Prevnar).

Basically, the vaccination only protects against certain strains of the bacteria and with vaccination the rates of infection with these bacteria goes down. However, as Mother Nature is wont to do, she retaliates by rising rates of more dangerous infections with the non-vaccinated strains (serotypes).

This particular study finds that this effect is not just limited to children, but that in adults we are seeing higher overall rates of infections because of the vaccine…

HAVE YOU HEARD OF NAFLD?

I’m floored.  Look at the outcomes in this study.  It’s  sickeningly scary. And we’re worried about vaccinating our healthy kids  for the flu.  Ten years ago we never even heard about NAFLD, let alone in  children.  This is really only the tip of the iceberg.  As our  children get heavier and heavier and more insulin resistant we will see  increasing prevalence of NAFLD.  This is scary.  These are just  children.  The parents and the pediatricians should both be strung up and  beaten (the pediatricians for not illustrating the contribution of poor  lifestyle to the condition, the parents if they don’t adopt the changes if the  pediatrician recommends them).  Sorry to be so strong on this one, but I’m  sick of seeing toddlers being fed Coke and chicken fingers…

HOW MANY CHILDREN DIED OF THE SWINE FLU?  I am by no means making light of the loss of any one child.  As the father of a preschooler that comment comes from the heart.  The US lost 83 children (<18 yoa) in the most recent flu season who had no underlying risk factors (269 total).  83.  We spent millions of dollars in media blitzes, vaccinations and doctors visits.

Here is the sickening part.  In this same time frame (7 months) we lost 700 children to not being properly restrained in a car seat.  750 kids under 2 end up in the ER due to bad reactions to decongestants.  At least 250 deaths / year in children under 2 from medication reactions (the number is likely much, much higher).  There is a dispropotionate effort to educate on influenza and nothing on much more relevant problems.  At some point this has to stop.
