CHILDHOOD DEATHS FROM H1N1 IN ENGLAND SHOCKINGLY LOW. As I’ve said innumerable times before, it is heartbreaking to see the loss of a single child, but we always need to keep things in perspective. In England, during last year’s pandemic, devastating swine flu H1N1, the whole planet’s going to be wiped out season, 15 healthy children lost their lives to influenza. Think of the untold billions of dollars spent on vaccination, propaganda about getting vaccinated and antivirals (which, ironically enough, have never been proven to work against H1N1). What if this money went towards buying child car seats? Vit D, fruits and vegetables? Treadmills? Getting rid of soda in public schools (who argue that they need the revenue that the sales of soda brings in)? This continues to seem to me like a massive, massive waste of “healthcare” dollars. And, without fail, we’re doing it again this year, except NOW, you can get a flu vaccine on every corner. Read More…

Did You Know That The Flu Vaccine Contains Mercury?
MERCURY, THE MOST POTENT NEUROTOXIN ON THE PLANET, SHOULD NOT BE INJECTED DIRECTLY INTO THE BLOOD STREAM… Sounds like one of those stupid warnings like “for external use only” on a bottle of rat poison, right? Who on Earth would willingly inject MERCURY into their blood stream? Many of you know where this is going. The multidose flu vaccine (which is the vast majority of vaccinations given) contains mercury, among other known contaminants, detergents and suspected carcinogens. This is not hearsay, this is directly off of the FDA’s website. Seriously. The effectiveness in healthy kids and adults, after some 7 decades of use, has NEVER BEEN ESTABLISHED, and yet every single corner now offers flu vaccines. Heck…by next year when I gas up the flu vaccine guy will be in line right behind the windshield replacement guy. I have never, ever even remotely considered giving me or my son the flu shot, and never will. Read More…
Mesa AZ Chiropractor – Weight Management
SO MY DOCTOR TELLS ME I’M FAT… Ok, so maybe that wouldn’t be the best way to open up a discussion with patients, but what is? In this particular study, we find that when patients were told they were overweight by their doctor they were more than twice as likely to attempt and be successful at weight loss. Without this information from their doctor, even knowing they were overweight, less than half of the patients in the study actually attempted weight loss. Wow. I can tell you that, even in my office, I am sensitive to how I bring this subject up to patients. I practice what I preach and my body fat hovers around 15-18%, which is a little better than normal for my advancing age… Because of this, there are times that I feel that some may view me as being judgmental and critical if I directly bring up their weight. But this study really does open up my eyes to just how important the recommendation to lose weight is. And maybe it’s better coming from someone who “walks the walk” than an overweight physician who just had a bagel and diet coke for breakfast. How would YOU like this to be handled? Read More…
Should we be Eating/Drinking Dairy? – Mesa AZ Chiropractor
SHOULD WE BE GIVING DAIRY TO INFANTS?? Or adults for that matter? Those of us who make it a passion to understand physiology are, in general, against dairy products. It is a very common allergen for starters and is an animal based protein with little additional to offer. And let’s face it…name another mammal stupid enough to continue to drink milk after it’s weaned… Of greater concern, however, are the links between dairy and Type 1 diabetes. This particular study finds that using hydrolyzed formula (i.e. Alimentum, Nutramigen) was less likely to stimulate the body to attack the beta cells of the pancreas years later. The JRDF states that there is not enough evidence that dairy contributes to Type 1 diabetes. If it were my child, this stance is unacceptable. My son has very little exposure to dairy and this is a deliberate act based on everything I know about how dairy affects our children’s developing immune system.
Mesa AZ Chiropractor Explains the Dangers of High Calorie Drinks
The Health of Your Child is Entirely Up to You
THE HEALTH OF YOUR CHILD BEGINS BEFORE YOU GET PREGNANT. When you really think about it, our system of healthcare really is screwed up. The body does not respect the artificial barriers of specialties as we have designated them. The impact of an OB/GYN making the recommendation for a couple looking to get pregnant to achieve and maintain a healthy weight has an impact on the pediatric practice and later the cardiology and endocrinology practice. And yet most OB/GYNs do not seem to be aware of the long term ramifications of pregnancy on the child. So long as the baby is delivered and everybody seems okay, it is viewed as a successful outcome. Even more so if artificial reproductive technologies were used. But the other specialists do not see the patient until the risk factors have been present for years, sometimes decades. Is it no wonder why those of us that practice functional medicine seem to be eternally pulling our hair out in frustration at “healthcare?”
Do You Give Your Kid’s Gatorade?
GATORADE FOR ACTIVE KIDS? Gatorade (in it’s original form without all the iridescent colors and artificial sweeteners) was designed for the athlete who hits the wall at 60 minute of heavy aerobic activity and needs rapid glucose for the next hour. And, quite frankly, it does a good job at this. And ONLY this. But, the marketing guys obviously knew what they were doing when they advertised to expand the market, most notably for children. So contrast the sweaty athlete in the middle of an Ironman Triathlon to the sedentary child playing XBox on the couch. The concept of a “sports” drink has morphed far beyond its intended market, but the perception that these drinks are in some way healthy has been persistent. For all but the endurance athlete these drinks are nothing but empty calories and should be avoided. We should NEVER drink our calories. Period. Read More…
Infant and Child Growth Charts
CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY WE NEED GROWTH CHARTS FOR INFANTS AND CHILDREN? It is not unusual for me to have a patient nervous that their child was above or below “normal” weight and height for there age. Usually we are talking about infants. I’m guessing that none of us need a chart to look at a 100 lb 7 yr old and determine that the child is not where they are supposed to be. The growth charts were originally designed to identify infants experiencing malnutrition. Of course, the “mal” part of this is different now–back then it meant too little calories or protein. Now, since “mal” means bad, the larger chunk of our infants and children are exposed to “mal” nutrition. The bottom line is that who cares how much your baby weighs if they are conscientiously breastfed at least for 6 months and then slow introduced to high quality, nutrient dense foods? That baby will grow at the rate that baby is supposed to grow, and the baby could really care less about whether or not they are on some chart somewhere. My son Keegan, who is almost 5, has never been placed on a chart somewhere to determine just how he matches up. I could care less. What I DO care about is the food that goes into his body, the chemicals he is exposed to and the amount of playtime he gets. I leave the growth chart up to Mother Nature… Read More…
