Enhanced Progression of Early Carotid Atherosclerosis & C pneumoniae – (04-12-01)

Enhanced Progression of Early Carotid Atherosclerosis & C pneumoniae

We are starting to see more and more evidence that an infectious etiology plays a part in heart disease. I believe that this is a big reason why mainstream medicine has such a problem with heart disease; there is no “one cause, one cure.” Inflammation, hyperinsulinemia, hypertension, oxidation of cholesterol, high homocysteine, infections…the list is quite long. An approach to heart disease prevention needs to be comprehensive and address all these factors. Putting on blinders and lowering only high blood pressure or cholesterol is not good enough.

Prospective Study of Pathogen Burden and Risk of MI or Death – (01-13-01)

Prospective Study of Pathogen Burden and Risk of MI or Death

A very interesting study that continues to add support to the contribution of an infectious etiology to heart disease. Although this study does not show a link between C. pneumoniae and heart disease, other viruses did prove to be an independent risk factor. As I’ve said; this just further supports the idea of taking good care of yourself, which will inevitably support healthy immune system function and lower the number of circulating pathogens.

C pneumoniae in arteries and the amount of plaquing – (04-30-01)

C pneumoniae in the Arteries and Amount of Atherosclerosis

There really has been mounting evidence lately on the presence of an infectious etiology for CVD. The interesting thing is that, much like homocysteine, the evidence is all over and yet the lay public is blissfully unaware of another contributor to heart disease. The lifestyle changes designed to improve health will also improve the immune system and hopefully its ability to fight off invaders such as C. pneumoniae.
