Vitamin C and How it Can Help Your Liver

GOOD ‘OLE VITAMIN C DOES IT AGAIN…It’s funny how much flack Dr. Linus Pauling has received for his strong devotion and belief in the power of Vit C, and yet, decades later, we are just now beginning to see how correct he was. Truly a pioneer that was not recognized in his time. In this particular animal study, we see that vitamin C deficiency actually lead to liver damage. Obviously not a good thing. In humans, combine this with a cabinet full of prescription drugs, OTC drugs, prediabetes (VERY bad for the liver) and alcohol and your liver is just screaming for help. It’s funny when I talk about taking high levels of Vit C to patients, they usually say something along the lines of how they take lots of Vitamin C when they’re not feeling well. However, what they usually mean by “lots” is 1 or maybe 2 grams per day. When we talk about “lots” with Vitamin C, we are talking about 1-2 grams every HOUR, until bowel tolerance hits (gassy feeling or loose stools, indicating that you’ve taken more than your body can absorb at that time). I remember a patient who we had taking high levels for her allergies and she could take 25 grams / day and not hit bowel tolerance.
