URINARY INFECTION RESULTS IN CORONARY SYNDROME – (07-18-05)

July 8, 2012 by James Bogash

Urinary tract infection in patients with acute coronary syndrome

The association of infection with heart disease continues to grow.  Whether the infection is urinary, periodontal or respiratory, the association continues to be shown.  The infection, which can be a mild, low level infection without many symptoms, produces a constant activation of the immune system w/ subsequent inflammation.

Given the relationship of inflammation to vascular disease, the end result is not surprising.  Regardless, the recommendations remain the same–lifestyle changes geared towards lowering heart disease risks are the same ones that will boost the immune system.

PREVENTION OF VASCULAR DISEASE – (03-08-10)

Aspirin in the primary and secondary prevention of vascular disease

Here’s another of those long held dogmas dying a slow, hard death. Basically, for preventing a first heart attack, the numbers are really not that good and overshadowed by an increased risk of death from bleeding. For secondary prevention, the numbers were better, but still weak. Seriously, though…all this education and advertising and hype over taking an aspirin a day, and we drop from 8.2% to 6.7%???? And this is to be heralded as the wonders of modern medicine?

The bottom line is that some of these interventions may be effective, but they really do suck as far as just how WELL they work. How many doctors will push a patient to take an aspirin a day but not discuss refined carbs or healthy fats, both of which show massive reductions in events?? At what point will we wake up and realize that this house of cards we call medicine is defunct? Or will we ever?
