OK, SO EXERCISE LOWERS MY CHOLESTEROL, BUT SO DOES LIPITOR, RIGHT?  This study is the absolute most perfect example of why the drug model fails and lifestyle trumps all.  You’re worried about your cholesterol and having heart disease.  Since the ad on TV says diet and exercise weren’t enough for the good looking guy walking in the forest, so it sure as heck ain’t going to work for me.  Statin drugs will make your cholesterol number look better, but that’s really about it.  On the flip side, look at what changed in this study on intensive exercise intervention…fitness levels, HbA1c, blood pressure, HDL, LDL, waist circumference, BMI, insulin sensitivity and inflammation.  Geez!  And I’m sure the list would be longer if we looked at more stuff.  Can you get the point?  Using lifestyle changes improves everything, not some arbitrary number we picked because a drug can artificially lower that value.  That is why lifestyle’s benefits are massive, but using drugs for the same condition shows only a very small benefit (with side effects..).
