Whole body EMS training FAQs

    • Is it really just 20 minutes once per week?  Yes!  Just 20 minutes per week is the recommendation from medical studies that find benefits that are equal to working out for an hour, 3 x / wk.
    • Can anyone do it?  The beautiful thing about EMS training is that it can be adapted to just about anyone.
    • Who is not able to do EMS training? People who have pacemakers or other electrical devices implanted would not be able to do EMS.

    • Do I have to be fit to start?  Almost all of our participants come to us very deconditioned.  Many have not exercised in decades!  We also have very fit people and athletes that see benefit from whole body EMS training.
    • What do I need to wear? You are provided a special shirt and shorts (think biker shorts) that is yours to use with your sessions.  For footwear, make sure you have shoes with suitable support and traction.
    • Are the EMS training sessions hard?  The sessions are incredibly personalized to your fitness levels and goals.  While you are there to improve your physical fitness and function, everyone moves at his or her own pace.
    • Will EMS training help my balance?  Absolutely!  The best way to lower your risk of falls is to build leg strength.  In addition, if balance is a concern, our trainer can incorporate balance-specific exercises to increase your balance.

    • Will I lose weight?  While whole body EMS is not designed as a weight loss program, as participants become more fit, weight and body fat improve.
    • Can I do this if I’m already fit? Absolutely!  The program has the ability to help any fitness level improve to the next level.
    • What kind of exercises are done in the sessions? Initially, the exercises are simple exercises that do not require the use of weights (such as squats or arms rowing)
    • Will I feel sore after the session?  You are actually building more muscle. As a result, some soreness a day or two after a session is expected.
    • What does it feel like when I’m in the suit?  It is going to feel weird!  Small electrical pulse work alongside your muscle contraction to increase the amount of work being done, but this is not an uncomfortable sensation.
    • Are the exercises safe if I have a pre-existing injury? Our trainers are able to help you adapt the exercises to your own personal limitations so that the sessions can be done safely and comfortably.  In fact, many participants find that old injuries improve with EMS training.
    • Are there side effects/risks associated with EMS workouts?  With 1-on-1 training in the suit, EMS training is no more risky than working out in the gym.
    • Why is EMS training better than a regular workout? The suit allows you to get more of your muscle working than normal exercise while doing the exact same exercises. This leads to more muscle building with the same amount of work.
