Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Is Associated With Endothelial Dysfunction – (04-12-01)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Is Associated With Endothelial Dysfunction

Insulin is the key player in this relationship. Insulin is known to shunt away from estrogen production over to testerone production. This elevated testerone is known to be a risk factor for PCOS. Managing insulin levels can be one of the most important things to do for controlling a wide variety of disease states.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Is Associated With Endothelial Dysfunction

In view of recent findings that insulin resistance can be a contributor to endothelial dysfunction; and knowing that high insulin levels can shunt hormone production into too much testosterone in the female to contribute to PCOS…then this study is merely proving that A=B and B=C so A must =C. But it’s nice to see the studies done to prove what clinicians in the trenches use empirically every day.

EFFECT OF DIABETIC DRUG ON CRP LEVELS AFFECTING PATIENT’S LONG TERM HEALTH – (10-15-03)

Metformin Reduces CRP in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

What I find interesting about this article is not that a diabetic drug could lower CRP levels (insulin will raise CRP levels–so if you lower insulin levels you will lower CRP as well) but that the standard care, aka the Pill, will increase CRP levels!! It seems like, in so many cases, the OB/GYN answer to most female problems is to use the pill to force a “normal” cycle on the patient. Yet this sets up a physiological state that is ultimately damaging to the patient’s long term health.

REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES FOR UNHEALTHY MOMS – (08-28-06)

July 12, 2012 by James Bogash

Fetal Programming of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Androgen Excess

Chalk up another chronic disease that begins in the womb. Again, we see quite a bit of validation on the part of some researchers suggesting that maybe we shouldn’t off assisted reproductive techniques for patients who have not first tried lifestyle changes.

This may sound unfair or cruel, but look at the alternatives–an unhealthy mom can’t get pregnant because her body isn’t ready. We use the “best” of modern medicine to force reproduction, but in the process we are literally tearing apart the health of our community a generation at a time.

INFERTILITY IN THE POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME – (09-17-07)

April 15, 2012 by James Bogash

Clomiphene, Metformin, or Both for Infertility in the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Jese o’ Pete–How about NEITHER!! PCOS is a lifestyle condition that needs to be managed from a lifestyle standpoint. You force ovulation on a body that is saying it doesn’t want to get pregnant and you grow a fetus in an unhealthy system and then mom raises that child in the same poor lifestyle she had. This is a deadly combination as it pertains to chronic disease.

Although we are seeing the onset of chronic disease in younger and younger patients each generation, I firmly believe that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg as it relates to chronic disease.
