Pervasive social deficits, but normal parturition, in oxytocin receptor-deficient mice
Understanding that this is a mouse study, there is an important take home message. The induction of labor with pitocin here in the US is very high. Pitocin mimics the action of oxytocin. While many may view oxytocin as the hormone that initiates and promotes labor, it also plays a large role in social behaviors. There have been numerous studies linking pitocin use and ADD/ADHD behaviors.
This study adds further support to the proposed mechanism through which this can occur.
